Hello! My name is Sergio Orozco and I am in my third year working at Sharpstein Elementary as the Site Coordinator for the afterschool program. Growing up, I never really attended any afterschool programs, but having gone through the public school system as a student and then working in all three phases of it – elementary, middle, and high school – I have grown to see the value afterschool programs bring to students. My passions are working with youth and playing with technology. The afterschool program has allowed me to combine those two passions daily! Creating opportunities and programs for students to learn cool things that they might not otherwise get to learn is very rewarding work. When students walk away from my program knowing they learned something new, and made some new friends while doing it, I feel fortunate knowing that I was part of that process.
BLOXELS
Every kid wants to be able to create their own video game, right? Through Bloxels, students write, design, and draw their own story and bring it to life. By engaging their imaginations to make their own hero and villain characters, students create whole new worlds and then challenge other students to complete their game.
VIDEOGRAPHY
Students get the opportunity to create, record, and edit their own content using iPads. They learn basic filming techniques and editing skills through iMovie, and have opportunities to share their final projects with their peers.
SPORTS & REC
Students stay healthy and engaged by having fun playing sports and recreation games. They participate in a variety of physical and mental activities ranging from basketball, to pac-man, to Danish rounders, to board games.
ORIGAMI
A challenging skill to master, students dedicate themselves to the art of origami. Demonstrating pride in their work through periodic exhibitions, students will have the opportunity to share some of the best creations.
