At the fundamental level, 21st CCLC programs support the creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children, particularly for students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools.
Students who participate regularly in program services gain essential and fundamental skills in core content academic areas, improve grades and test scores in these subject areas, demonstrate increased confidence, self-esteem, and resiliency as related to the regular school-day, and improve the overall well-being of their families, both academically and physically.
